U.S. & Iraq

In a speech today at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., President Bush outlined his strategy for winning the war in Iraq and gradually withdrawing U.S. forces. The complete transcript of the speech can be found on the White House website here, and the PDF of the National Strategy for Victory in Iraq can be found here. Has President Bush successfully answered critics who said that he did not have a strategy to win the war in Iraq?

U.S. & Iraq
Should the U.S. withdraw from Iraq? James Abrahamson, a retired senior U.S. Army officer argues (American Diplomacy - Facing the Islamist Challenge) that reform and modernization of the authoritarian regimes of the Mideast are necessary to thwart the goal of radical Islamists to subjugate the region and, strengthened by control of the Mideast's oil, eventually the West. In his view, an American withdrawal from Iraq would be "neither sound strategy nor intelligent patriotism."
