Perspectives on the U.S.
As you know, the First Lady is on a goodwill tour of Europe, what some have called a charm offensive. Though there are substantive portions of the trip, there is little doubt that one goal of the journey is to boost America's image abroad. In the above Internet resource, the Social Science Research Council presents five essays to provide a lens for viewing selected aspects of American political institutions, cultural practices, and social norms through foreign eyes--as part of a larger effort to understand the disconnect between how Americans see their country and how it is viewed from abroad.
