The United States and the United Kingdom presented their draft resolution on Iraq's disarmament to the full membership of the Security Council October 23 after several days of informal talks among the five permanent members.

AP: U.S. Believes New Draft Gives Inspectors More Clout
The United States on Tuesday pushed a revised U.N. draft resolution on Iraq that gives weapons inspectors more clout and puts Saddam Hussein on notice that he faces “serious consequences” if Iraq does not cooperate.

Text: Bush Signs and Commends Sudan Peace Act
President Bush issued a White House statement October 21 announcing his signing of the Sudan Peace Act, H.R. 5531. He said the Act "is designed to help address the evils inflicted on the people of Sudan by their government. . .and to press the parties, and in particular the Sudanese Government, to complete in good faith the negotiations to end the war."
