If the question is, what role should the U.S. take in promoting Mideast peace, then part of the answer may be found in this White House transcript of a meeting on Monday between President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Sharon. In remarks to the press, President Bush said, "I remain strongly committed to the vision of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. The Prime Minister and I reaffirmed our commitment to that vision and to the road map as the only way forward to realize it." The official role of the U.S. in promoting Mideast peace has been defined in the Roadmap to Solution of Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
