U.S. Role in Afghanistan
Two contrasting views on the U.S. role in Afghanistan: J. Alexander Thier argues in the New York Times that contrary to President Bush's assertions at the United Nations on last week, White House policy has largely failed Afghanistan; Peter Bergen, also in the Times, suggests that Afghanistan could be set to serve as a model for other countries in the region where representative democracy has yet to take root: notably in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Iran.
