U.S. & Iraq
Should the U.S. withdraw from Iraq? James Abrahamson, a retired senior U.S. Army officer argues (American Diplomacy - Facing the Islamist Challenge) that reform and modernization of the authoritarian regimes of the Mideast are necessary to thwart the goal of radical Islamists to subjugate the region and, strengthened by control of the Mideast's oil, eventually the West. In his view, an American withdrawal from Iraq would be "neither sound strategy nor intelligent patriotism."
